Site clearing, earthwork, and site utilities

Project Highlights & Challenges

Project consisted of site clearing, excavation, and grading for three (3) building foundations as well as a parking garage on a 34 acre site consisting of 192,000 cubic yards of dirt and rock excavation. Subcontractor to Bloomsdale Excavating , Fred Luth and Sons worked in conjunction with Bloomsdale Excavating installing site utilities, consisting of deep storm and sanitary sewer and two large underground storage systems (Stormtech units). On a project of this magnitude, communication is of paramount importance to have a full understanding between the design team and the constructible elements of project so as to potentially realize cost savings options for the owner. As such, it is common to see many utility design changes during installation, which were all discussed and implemented as part of the construction team,

As the building came out of the ground and additional trades came on to the site, the area for backfilling the building foundations required a coordinated communication effort to work around other trades on a daily basis. Careful planning and preparation continue to take place in order for all construction trades to stay productive and keep the General Contractor and Owner satisfied.
